American Blackbelly Ram 4 yrs., Prolific Breeder. Small, stout wonderful boy. We are reducing our herd for the summer. He has produced 10-20 babies a year from 4-5 ewes, and only being aloud to breed once sometimes twice a year. Always fed on natural grass pastures, no sprays or chemicals of any kind ever used. If you are not aware of the Blackbelly breed,,,They are a healthy and beautiful, low maintenance breed.... They are both a meat (lean/gourmet ) and hair sheep. They are so hardy and disease resistant they require no shearing, inoculations, hoof trimmings, wormings or special feeds. They prefer blackberry vines, poison oak and any grass or weed, dead or alive.. They are not picky and will de-firehazard any property, large or small. They are just amazing, clean little brushhogs. They are tame, well behaved and do not climb or jump, as goats do. They are easy on fencing, but do require shelter from predators and adequate fencing to contain them to a desired area. These are prolific breeders, with current ewes and rams producing a majority of twin births and can produce up to 3 times a year. Ewes are independent, requiring no help with birthing and babies are chewing grass and hay within a couple days....Overall they are an amazing breed, requiring very little maintenance.
